Title: Out of the Fire (The Relic Runner Book 1) Pdf

When a Delta Force team takes out a terrorist cell in the northeastern mountains of Iraq, they stumble onto something that changes their lives forever.Betrayed, lost, and alone, Dak Harper must find a way to survive, and formulate a plan to set things right in this groundbreaking series from USA Today Bestseller Ernest Dempsey. Out of the Fire sets the tone for The Relic Runner series and is sure to keep you turning the pages until you reach the end.

Need the Rest of It I understand that this book will be written in installments. It seems to be a good story and worth 5 stars but waiting for the next "chapter" is annoying. I think I'll wait until all of the rest are published to finish. Then it will earn 5 stars. Can't wait for the next This is the start of a new series and love the way it kicks off. I admit I'm a huge Dempsey fan and once again he grabs. I love history, archaeology and action and it's all there. My only regret is I have to wait for the next one!Ernest Dempsey does it again! This is an awesome read... Start to finish edge of the seat ride. Ernest Dempsey has a way with stories and keeping you reading and he's done it again.. the only downside to this book is the ending! It ends way too soon!

Title: Small Teaching Pdf Everyday Lessons from the Science of Learning
Author: James M. Lang
Published Date: 2016-03-07
Page: 259

Cognitive psychologists, neuroscientists, and biologists all have produced a revealing body of research over the past several decades on how human beings learn, but often translating these findings into the classroom is overwhelming for busy instructors. Small Teaching bridges the gap between research and practice by providing a fully developed strategy for making deliberate, structured, and incremental steps towards tuning into how your students are hardwired to learn. Developed by a global authority on teaching and learning, the practice of "small teaching" enables every type of educator in all disciplines to energize and boost student understanding by introducing small activities that require minimal preparation and grading. The models inside are specifically designed to be used as both one-time experiences to innovate a course session or unit plan as well as a menu of options that can be combined into an entirely new teaching approach. Each chapter gives examples of how a particular learning phenomenon appears in everyday life, supporting research and findings, up to five small-teaching models, guidance for customizing your own models, and quick-reference features when you need inspiration fifteen minutes before class. Small teaching techniques include brief classroom or online learning activities, one-time interventions, and small modifications in course design or communication with students that let you: Small Teaching gives you all the know-how and how-to for making big improvements to your learning environment. Praise for small TEACHING "The deft way that Lang positions his learning recommendations as 'micro' changes will make this book catch on like wildfire in higher education." —Victoria Mondelli, executive director, Teaching Excellence & Engaged Learning, Mercy College "Small Teaching is packed with ideas that will have you highlighting like mad. But this is no mere collection of tips—instead, it's a powerful, coherent framework aligned to the realities of teaching in higher education today." —Michelle Miller, director, First Year Learning Initiative, University College, and professor, Northern Arizona University "Lang's book offers what so many faculty members want and need: small-scale changes that can enhance their teaching and their students' learning—not just 'someday' but Monday." —Marsha C. Lovett, director, Eberly Center for Teaching Excellence & Educational Innovation, Carnegie Mellon University "In Small Teaching, Lang shows us that sometimes less really is more—less disruptive and more appealing, less complicated and more doable, less busy-work and more student learning. Be ready to underline, add comments, attach sticky-notes, and share your copy. In fact, buy two because your first copy will forever be on loan to colleagues ready for easy-to-adopt ideas that offer real results." —Susan M. Zvacek, associate provost for the Advancement of Teaching & Learning, University of Denver "Lang's 'must-read' new book Small Teaching presents a vital array of brief classroom activities, course interventions, and course design modifications that can enhance student learning, any of which can be employed at any time during the semester. Supported by thorough research and an engaging narrative style, this book can be mined by faculty across the disciplines on any campus that prizes student learning." —Jeffery Galle, director, Center for Academic Excellence, Oxford College of Emory University "The notion that amazing teaching can come as a result of making small, research-based changes seems simple, but it has the potential to empower many in higher education. James Lang has done us all a great service by providing strategies that allow us to be more efficient and effective in the classroom without overhauling our entire approach to teaching." —Joshua R. Eyler, director, Center for Teaching Excellence, and adjunct associate professor of humanities, Rice University "James Lang's Small Teaching manages to distill volumes of educational research into practical strategies that can be put to use immediately, without having to remake your whole course. I expect I'll be seeing well-thumbed copies on professors' bookshelves for years to come." —David Gooblar, pedagogy columnist for Chronicle Vitae, and founder of PedagogyUnbound.com

Employ cognitive theory in the classroom every day

Research into how we learn has opened the door for utilizing cognitive theory to facilitate better student learning. But that's easier said than done. Many books about cognitive theory introduce radical but impractical theories, failing to make the connection to the classroom. In Small Teaching, James Lang presents a strategy for improving student learning with a series of modest but powerful changes that make a big difference—many of which can be put into practice in a single class period. These strategies are designed to bridge the chasm between primary research and the classroom environment in a way that can be implemented by any faculty in any discipline, and even integrated into pre-existing teaching techniques. Learn, for example:

  • How does one become good at retrieving knowledge from memory?
  • How does making predictions now help us learn in the future?
  • How do instructors instill fixed or growth mindsets in their students?

Each chapter introduces a basic concept in cognitive theory, explains when and how it should be employed, and provides firm examples of how the intervention has been or could be used in a variety of disciplines. Small teaching techniques include brief classroom or online learning activities, one-time interventions, and small modifications in course design or communication with students.

Informative and inspiring James Lang has assembled a lot of information on college learning of students to help instructors focus on how to improve their teaching. The most important aspects of the book were to set the learning environment for students to rethink their class room experiences. Learning is about growing not about talent.Research based tips for teaching and learning Good book with advice for teachers-aimed at college professors but could be adapted to high school with research based little things teachers/professors can begin doing tomorrow in class without a lot of work. highly recommend.Helpful pedagogical overview w/practical tips I read this book over my winter break and was pleased and delighted to encounter some new teaching models and to learn more of the recent science on learning. In particular, interweaving, retrieval, predictions, using emotions, and thinking about possible “big teaching” innovations down the line were useful topics.Highly recommend to newer teachers looking for simple tweaks to improve their practice.

ISBN: B07YBX5YDR
Title: Powerless (Steel Demons MC Book 2) Pdf
The Collapse took my rights away.
But it’s my heart that will leave me truly powerless.

Somehow, I’m still alive.
So are the gruff, dangerous men I’ve found myself strangely at home with. The Steel Demons escaped execution only to find they’ve been betrayed by one of their own. Once an unbreakable brotherhood, tension and distrust grows between them.

Meanwhile I’m stuck between a rock and Reaper’s hard place.

I should have known better than to fall for the green-eyed, rough-handed president. I knew a man like him would only hurt me. When he drops hints about sharing me with his two best friends, that says enough about what he thinks I am--an object to be passed around, just like every other woman after the Collapse.

The only question is, can I find the power to walk away?

Powerless is the second book in a motorcycle-themed, dystopian reverse harem series. This series is full of kindle-melting steam and dangerous men who take what they want. Proceed with caution if easily offended.

The Defining Decade Free Pdf

ISBN: 0446561754
Title: The Defining Decade Pdf Why Your Twenties Matter--And How to Make the Most of Them Now
Author: Meg Jay
Published Date: 2013-04-02
Page: 272

"Any recent college grad mired in a quarter-life crisis or merely dazed by the freedom of post-collegiate existence should consider it required reading."―Slate.com, Staff Pick"Meg Jay takes the specific complaints of twenty something life and puts them to diagnostic use."―New Yorker"The professional and personal angst of directionless twentysomethings is given a voice and some sober counsel in this engaging guide. While Jay maintains that facing difficulties in one's 20s 'is a jarring--but efficient and often necessary--way to grow,' the author is sincere and sympathetic, making this well-researched mix of generational sociology, psychotherapy, career counseling, and relationship advice a practical treatise for a much-maligned demographic."―Publishers Weekly "A clinical psychologist issues a four-alarm call for the 50 million 20-somethings in America.... A cogent argument for growing up and a handy guidebook on how to get there."―Kirkus Reviews"Excellently written, this book is sensitive to the emotional life of twentysomethings."―Library Journal "THE DEFINING DECADE [is] just the wake up call many twentysomethings need."―The Coffin Factory "I strongly recommend THE DEFINING DECADE for anyone in their 20s trying to figure out their life's direction. You'll learn how to search productively, how to avoid being indulgent, and how to turn good opportunities into great ones."―Po Bronson, author of What Should I Do With My Life?, co-author of Nurtureshock"Before reading THE DEFINING DECADE I didn't know enough about the importance of our twenties to be concerned that I could mess it all up. Now that I do, I could worry myself into paralysis, or, as Meg Jay suggests, grab life by the helm--even if I still have no idea in hell where I'm going. Without a doubt, The Defining Decade will leave you eager to embark on what I now see can be the most exciting odyssey of one's life."―Rachel Kauder Nalebuff, editor of My Little Red Book"THE DEFINING DECADE is the book twentysomethings have been waiting for. It will not tell you what you should do with your life, but it will inspire, motivate, and educate you to figure it out."―Rachel Simmons, author of The Good Girl"THE DEFINING DECADE is eye-opening, important, and a pleasure to read. I highly recommend it."―Wendy Mogel, author of The Blessing of a Skinned Knee and The Blessing of a B Minus

Our "thirty-is-the-new-twenty" culture tells us the twentysomething years don't matter. Some say they are a second adolescence. Others call them an emerging adulthood. Dr. Meg Jay, a clinical psychologist, argues that twentysomethings have been caught in a swirl of hype and misinformation, much of which has trivialized what is actually the most defining decade of adulthood.

Drawing from a decade of work with hundreds of twentysomething clients and students, THE DEFINING DECADE weaves the latest science of the twentysomething years with behind-closed-doors stories from twentysomethings themselves. The result is a provocative read that provides the tools necessary to make the most of your twenties, and shows us how work, relationships, personality, social networks, identity, and even the brain can change more during this decade than at any other time in adulthood-if we use the time wisely.

THE DEFINING DECADE is a smart, compassionate and constructive book about the years we cannot afford to miss.

Valuable Information for Twentysomethings I purchased the paperback edition for my daughter, then immediately purchased the audiobook for myself. The primary purpose of this book is to confront the unhelpful assumption that the twenties are merely a time of extended adolescence during which young people should goof off and try to find themselves. The author demonstrates time and again that twenty somethings with focus and jobs and goals are happier and less adrift than those who are attempting to have the time of their lives. Furthermore, the twenties are a time to lay valuable foundations for the rest of your life, whether that be in terms of education and starter jobs or in terms of dating individuals you might have a future with. The book is divided into three sections: Work. Love. The Brain and the Body. Without summarizing her actual book, let me point out some of the author's particular gems (from my perspective).WORK. There is a difference between jobs that build "capital" and jobs that can be lumped into the category "The Starbucks Years". Your best opportunities are found among your "weak ties", not among your Urban Tribe of like-minded thinkers. Don't buy into the myth that everyone else's life is better just because of their carefully-managed Facebook profiles.LOVE. Don't like the family you were born into? Marriage is a good opportunity to find another family. People who marry young have a higher rate of divorce, but that ends at 25. Couples who live together before marriage are more likely to divorce - unless they were already engaged before moving in together; this occurs because it's easy to slide from dating to sleeping over to living together - and from there to getting engaged to the person you were already living with (even though you wouldn't have considered marrying this "fun" partner before moving in together because you didn't consider them marriage material).THE BRAIN AND THE BODY. Of course you feel incompetent at work! That's because you are incompetent at work. You're just getting started! Mastery = 10,000 hours on task. Don't forget reproduction. You don't have as long as you think. Worse, if you have your first child at age 40 and they have their first child at age 40, that leads to 80-year-old grandparents. Doctors are seeing an epidemic of adults telling them to keep them alive for at least 20 more years so they can finish raising their children. But the most poignant of all was a tale from a man who had delayed marriage and children so he could have those good times during his twenties that everyone was encouraging him to have - only to realize at 40 that he would give anything to have had 5 extra years with his son instead of 5 years wasted on trivialities.Overall, a very good read. The audiobook was read by the author with her slight Southern twang. It was an enjoyable listen of around 5 hours. How to prevent a Quarter-Life Crisis in 20 chapters or less Best book on preventing the loss of a meaningful life your twenty's. Read it in a day, agreed with the powerful stories and strategies laid out by Dr. Meg Jay to prevent the quarter-life crisis that so many college educated people find themselves trapped in after graduation. Great stories.I've given away a case of these books, and every single person receiving it said it was exactly what they needed to guide them in making major decisions toward a better life. (Many of the twenty-somethings I gave the book to said they HATE to read... which doesn't apply when given the secrets to solving the overwhelming anxiety that comes to those stuck in their twenty's or the caregivers of those who are trapped there).

Title: Attached Pdf The New Science of Adult Attachment and How It Can Help You Find - and Keep - Love

"A groundbreaking book that redefines what it means to be in a relationship." (John Gray, PhD., best-selling author of Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus)

We already rely on science to tell us what to eat, when to exercise, and how long to sleep. Why not use science to help us improve our relationships? In this revolutionary book, psychiatrist and neuroscientist Dr. Amir Levine and Rachel Heller scientifically explain why some people seem to navigate relationships effortlessly, while others struggle.

Discover how an understanding of adult attachment - the most advanced relationship science in existence today - can help us find and sustain love. Pioneered by psychologist John Bowlby in the 1950s, the field of attachment posits that each of us behaves in relationships in one of three distinct ways:

  • Anxious people are often preoccupied with their relationships and tend to worry about their partner's ability to love them back
  • Avoidant people equate intimacy with a loss of independence and constantly try to minimize closeness.
  • Secure people feel comfortable with intimacy and are usually warm and loving.

Attached guides listeners in determining what attachment style they and their mate (or potential mate) follow, offering a road map for building stronger, more fulfilling connections with the people they love.

*Includes a PDF of the attachment style questionnaire

PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.

Eye-opening overview and introduction, but simplistic if you crave in-depth information. I have been in therapy on and off with different providers for almost 3 decades, and been in many failed relationships. Yet not one therapist ever mentioned the words "adult attachment theory" to me until I decided to see a new therapist at age 55. My new therapist recommended this book in my first session and it opened my eyes to what really happens in relationships. However, it is a somewhat simplistic book. It is very accessible to a broad audience, but leaves a lot of unanswered questions, including why we are the way we are and what we might do about it. I read most of it in one day. For anyone craving more information, I highly recommend Mindsight by Dan Siegel, which is a much denser book about the science and complexities of adult attachment issues, how they play out in real life, and what can realistically be done to resolve them. It took me weeks to finish. In particular, I think Attached does a disservice to what it calls "anxious-avoidant" attachment types--with no information at all on this type. Siegel calls this type "disorganized," and people with this type of attachment are in particular need of helpful, concrete information. To take the issue a step further for practical information for resolving relationship issues pertaining to attachment, I recommend Getting the Love you Want by Harville Hendrix.Much more than what I expected. Eye-opening, relationship saving. My psychiatrist pretty much made me order this book even though in my mind I was dead set against, thinking it was going to be a waste of time, perfectly convinced I knew everything about myself and whatever kind of "attached" I was.Whoa.Was I wrong. And I hate to be wrong. Thanks, Dr. D.General Information: This book is an easy read. It's not that stuff you need to be a rocket-scientist to figure out - in layman terms it briefs you on the broader different styles of attachment: secure, anxious and avoidant. The book helps you determine what kind of attachment styles you have via reading examples of others attachment styles and there are also some quizzes if you're still not sure, all of which I found useful. I really liked that the authors presented examples of scenarios of attachment styles and encouraged the reader to read through the scenarios and guess the kind of attachment styles that were presented based on the knowledge we had already been given in the earlier part of the book. I find that a helpful way to learn.Given that I was not into reading this in the first place - the fact that it was light reading, interesting and at times fun - made me very attuned to what this book had to say. I agree it wasn't super in-depth but I don't fault this book for that because if it was super in depth I would have not even read it. My psychiatrist knows what the heck she is talking about and she choose this book for a reason - so I have zero complaints. I think she was even impressed with how much I was able to take away after reading it in one day.Personal Information:This book taught me a lot about myself. With women, I have anxious attachments - stemming from an unpredictable childhood. I pretty much tend to gravitate toward any one who acts maternal with me and cling to her. This isn't necessarily about romantic attachment for me, it spelled out a lot of patterns with all the people I have in my life: from friends, family members, partners and even my doctors.I had started to notice that I was feeling unsettled in my relationship with my fiance. I was getting annoyed at everything he did. Little things, like the way he chewed. I would get annoyed when he would text me and completely ignore him for hours at a time. Until I read this book, I didn't realize the problem was me and that with men I have a very avoidant attachment style. I was able to take the criticism to heart without feeling persecuted because the book doesn't make you feel that way even though avoidants can come off as very very harsh and cruel and indifferent.I'm now able to communicate more effectively, recognize my own patterns of behavior, identify that I am responsible for my own actions and feelings and now I feel a real sense of control and independence because I have that knowledge. I have that security. I can reciprocate with my fiance now and not be so dismissive of him and I'm able to be a bit more open without feeling that he's trying to stop me from being my own person or that he's suffocating me.I highly recommend this book. If you want to delve super deep into this attachment thing - some other reviewers mentioned additions and alternatives but I wouldn't. I am a very learned person, a very intelligent person and I didn't need anything more in depth than this book to help me to start to recognize patterns that needed to change. I think this book is best served to people who can admit where they are on the attachment continuum. I happen to be at a place in my life now, thanks to my psychiatrist and therapist, where I am able to let my guard down a bit and accept things that are difficult for me to accept.. Maybe even just six months ago I wouldn't have been ready to admit this. But given my ability to be ready and my desire to make things right in my life now that I have a child - I didn't need a guide book to tell me how to figure out the things I needed to do to fix the areas that needed work in my life regarding my attachment styles.I disagree with the reviews that claim this book doesn't offer us any insight as to why we are the way we are and what we can do about it. Several times this book mentions the theories of infant and other kinds of attachments but does say that it's not the purpose of this book to delve into that. That's good enough for me. I was able to discern from the minimal but powerful examples they give of the attachment styles of infants to their caregivers to know why I am the way I am and I wrote a whole essay about it to share with my psychiatrist.... thanks to this book.As for what we can do about it - this was also something I didn't need a road map for. This is going to sound pretty darn simplistic but maybe that's just because it is. Kind of just do the opposite of what you're doing....???? That is how this has been working for me, anyway. But of course, I relied on the examples in the book to help direct my behavior without needing a "HOW TO" direction stamped across the page. You rely on your intuition. You rely on your knowledge. You rely on your empathy and most of all you rely on your willingness to enact change. The examples in this book were definitely not apples to apples with how I am with my fiance - but it was enough of an eye-opening experience for me to say to myself: "Oh geez..... I do things like this all the time and this is how my fiance must feel. He's just reacting to my avoidance. If I start to try to be less avoidant and give him a little bit more security by acknowledging him maybe he won't feel so frustrated or taken advantage of or hurt."And that's what I started to do. I started to recognize the behaviors I have that are avoidant and started to replace them with more healthy behaviors. At first this wasn't easy. I felt like I was losing a part of myself by giving in to him but then I realized that's silly and I went back to the book for guidance and reassurance and that's when I decided to feel more secure and in control. I'm far more independent by making the right, healthy choices for our relationship than I am being a slave to my fear of dependency. I really feel empowered by this and I thank the authors for putting this out there in a way that isn't complicated but that is so very helpful.

In a dramatic account of violence and espionage, Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter Ronan Farrow exposes serial abusers and a cabal of powerful interests hell-bent on covering up the truth. At any cost.

In 2017, a routine network television investigation led Ronan Farrow to a story only whispered about: one of Hollywood's most powerful producers was a predator, protected by fear, wealth, and a conspiracy of silence. As Farrow drew closer to the truth, shadowy operatives, from high-priced lawyers to elite war-hardened spies, mounted a secret campaign of intimidation, threatening his career, following his every move, and weaponizing an account of abuse in his own family.

All the while, Farrow and his producer faced a degree of resistance they could not explain - until now. And a trail of clues revealed corruption and cover-ups from Hollywood to Washington and beyond.

This is the untold story of the exotic tactics of surveillance and intimidation deployed by wealthy and connected men to threaten journalists, evade accountability, and silence victims of abuse. And it's the story of the women who risked everything to expose the truth and spark a global movement.

Both a spy thriller and a meticulous work of investigative journalism, Catch and Kill breaks devastating new stories about the rampant abuse of power and sheds far-reaching light on investigations that shook the culture.

Title: The Little Old Lady Who Broke All the Rules Pdf A Novel (League of Pensioners)
Author: Catharina Ingelman-Sundberg
Published Date: 2016-07-12
Page: 400

“Instead of hyperbolic, mustache-twirling villains, Ingelman-Sundberg deftly orchestrates the twists and turns in the plot through the foibles of real life, capturing the rebelliousness percolating just under the surface of ignored, shuffled away elderly folks in this merry, lighthearted caper.” (Kirkus Reviews)“Swedish writers may be known for their crime novels, but Ingelman-Sundberg’s caper involves illegal activity of a rather unusual order: The Little Old Lady Who Broke All the Rules is a story about spirited seniors determined have fun and raise some hell.” (Booklist)“Reminded me of the more mischievous moments of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.” (J.B. Morrison, author of The Extra Ordinary Life of Frank Derrick, Age 81)“A quirky, offbeat delight and a heart-warming reminder that one is never too old for some mischief.” (Tom Winter, author of Lost & Found)“A good-natured humorous crime caper.” (Independent on Sunday (UK))“Criminally fun!” (Bonniers Bokklubb (Sweden))“It has humor, brilliant dialogue, irony and warmth. A light-hearted and enjoyable detective comedy.” (PRO Pensionären (Sweden))“This is hilarious! Ocean 11 group meets the 70s group from the nursing home. I hope I am as spry as the 79 main character. They antics they get into make the book a delight to read....such fun.” (Kay Sheldon, Page & Palette)“Such a great read! This definitely proves the wisdom: it’s not the years in your life that count, it’s the life in your years.” (Suspense Magazine)“Readers will pull for the unlikely gang in their efforts to commit the ‘ultimate crime’ toward the end of this appealing crime novel.” (Publishers Weekly.com) CATHARINA INGELMAN-SUNDBERG is the Swedish author of over nineteen books. The Little Old Lady Who Broke All the Rules sold more than 1.2 million copies internationally and was a #1 bestseller in Canada. The Little Old Lady Strikes Again and The Little Old Lady Behaving Badly are also national bestsellers.

#1 International Bestseller

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel meets The Italian Job in internationally-bestselling author Catharina Ingelman-Sundberg’s witty and insightful comedy of errors about a group of delinquent seniors whose desire for a better quality of life leads them to rob and ransom priceless artwork.

Martha Andersson may be seventy-nine-years-old and live in a retirement home, but that doesn’t mean she’s ready to stop enjoying life. So when the new management of Diamond House starts cutting corners to save money, Martha and her four closest friends—Brains, The Rake, Christina and Anna-Gretta (a.k.a. The League of Pensioners)—won’t stand for it. Fed up with early bedtimes and overcooked veggies, this group of feisty seniors sets about to regain their independence, improve their lot, and stand up for seniors everywhere.

Their solution? White collar crime. What begins as a relatively straightforward robbery of a nearby luxury hotel quickly escalates into an unsolvable heist at the National Museum. With police baffled and the Mafia hot on their trail, the League of Pensioners has to stay one walker’s length ahead if it’s going to succeed….

Told with all the insight and humor of A Man Called Ove or Where’d You Go Bernadette?, The Little Old Lady Who Broke All the Rules is a delightful and heartwarming novel that goes to prove the adage that it’s not the years in your life that count, it’s the life in your years.

Fun, sassy I thought this to be a delightful read. Fun, sassy, a quirky romp. It was a fast read; I found myself zipping through the pages, cheering the elderly characters fighting for independence and reveling in mischief.... However, being of the age considered "elderly" myself, I had to laugh at the "old lady" on the cover, and at the age the author describes as "old." Catharina Ingleman-Sundberg must be so young that anyone over 60 is, in her eyes, seen as being somewhere in their 80's... But I loved it all, anyway. A gifted writer, and a charming story.I was so bored I skimmed the last half I really hate to pan a book, but this one was painful to read. It sounded so promising and had the potential to be sweet and funny. But it was so long and drawn out. And it was not funny. As I was reading, I kept thinking that this may have been better as a 90 minute movie with a lot of slap stick comedy and quirky character actors.Martha Andersson and her four friends live in a retirement home that is more interested in saving money than in caring for the residents. Fed up with budget cuts, Martha and her friends decide to escape. They lodge at a very fancy hotel and plan a robbery at a nearby art museum. Their goal is to ransom the paintings. Their other goal is to get caught and spend some time in prison, where they believe the conditions are better than at the retirement home. All goes mostly as planned except they lose the paintings and half of the ransom money. There are multiple mishaps and something involving the Yugoslavian mafia, a hotel maid, and the nurse at the retirement home. Once the mafia surfaced, I started skimming.I bought this book because it was compared to A Man Called Ove, Where’d You Go Bernadette, and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. This book is none of those things. It is a very watered down version of A Man Called Ove at best. The writing is basic, the story is not interesting, it was not funny, and I could have edited out about 200 pages. For wit, insight, and charming characters you would be better off reading anything by Fredrik Backman.Living Life Dangerously Taking into account that this is translated from Swedish, it was a delightful read with Seniors living life to the max. The retirement home was cutting corners and leaving the elderly residents to live a boring life. The Choir decided to get away and live a little dangerously. Doing their best to not hurt anyone but dip into the criminal life, and live the good life. I enjoyed the imagination and skill they used to get away with a first class crime. It was in their favor that no one would suspect a bunch of seemingly old, decrepit seniors.
